Background

This category of art started with the originator, Capt. Tim Simos, first making recycle bins that resemble bottles.

The way this came about was, he had seen too many bottles and cans in the trash at the parks by his home and he decided to do something about it.  The full story can be read on CleverRecycle.com.

After making the first recycle bins that look like bottles, he wondered what else could be made.  The next item to be made was a recycle bin that looks like an oversized tennis racket.  When a good friend saw the tennis racket, he said that people would buy this as artwork to display in their homes.

From there he tackled the tasks of making common objects such as a large red Valentine heart, an eye with a mirror for a pupil, an ice cream cone, and big red lips.

He soon realized that he could make many more common objects using this form of art.  This eye-catching art is contained in the Sports, Feel Good, Food, Holidays, Sushi and Jewelry galleries.

In his high school graduation yearbook, it is listed that Capt. Tim's interests were sports, fishing and food.  Those three interests have remained constant throughout his life.  He now enjoys combining any one of those interests with this art form and creating art for all to enjoy.

Materials & Construction

Arts of Wire, works of art, are made using the highest quality materials available.  The primary component is 16 gauge steel wire that is first welded into a square pattern, and then galvanized to limit corrosion.
If that was not enough to protect the wire from corrosion, it is also coated with PVC in a variety of colors. In fact, the material is so corrosion resistant, it is intended for use under salt water.

The wire material is then custom cut, shaped and then assembled by hand in the United States to create functional works of art. There is a combination of stainless steel and corrosion resistant fasteners used to hold these bins together.  These items come with a lifetime warranty on workmanship and against rust.

A portion of profits will be donated to organizations whose goal is to protect the earth’s oceans.

Note: New works of art are added each week.
